WHO WE ARE

Highland Hills is a thoughtful community formed by a deep awareness of God’s loving presence.

We seek to cultivate space in our lives to encounter God and recognize that these transformative moments are the foundation of our life together. Here you will find people of all economic means, education levels, and political thought striving to know God, care for one another, and be faithfully present in Macon, Georgia.

We value intentional words in our worship whether in liturgy, prayers, or preaching.

We believe that beauty and creativity are gifts by which we experience God and you’ll find these gifts expressed in our organ and choir music, the artwork incorporated throughout our building and worship, and the natural beauty nurtured in the trees and flowers of our grounds. Whether walking the trail around the church or sitting in the outdoor amphitheater, you’ll find rest and renewal in this oasis of creation and a deeper commitment to care for our world.

As a church we know that faith and life are better when experienced together. In home groups and Sunday School classes, Mercer basketball games, dinners downtown, or serving together, we are becoming more fully who God created and called us to be because of one another. We believe healing and wholeness can be found here. As we listen to and are formed by the voice of God, we believe there is work to do in our community and world—the work of love and justice, hope and peace. We deeply desire to be a church creating good in our world.

We are a Baptist church and while that term comes with some baggage, for us being Baptist is grounded in the freedom we find in God.

We believe in the freedom of each person to encounter God directly and to interpret scripture. We believe in the freedom of each local expression of church to follow God’s unique call and the freedom of all religions to peacefully practice without the coercion of the state. Highland Hills is affiliated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, a network of churches who partner together in ministry and witness to God’s goodness and love.  We are a proud Encourager Church to field personnel in Japan, the Philippines, and Uganda.
