May 4 and June 1
The Missions Committee is hosting two training sessions, led by the Baylor University Center for Church and Community Impact, to discuss Trauma Sensitive Congregations and Accompaniment Care. Both training sessions will be held in the Great Room and will last an hour and a half. You do not have to attend both sessions, or attend the first session to attend the second.
Trauma Sensitive Congregations Training
Sunday, May 4, at 5 p.m.
Our first training session will discuss utilizing a trauma sensitive lens in ministry. This training will raise awareness of the prevalence of trauma and guides congregations to adapt actions, language, and policies that prioritize emotional, physical, and psychological safety for those who have experienced trauma. The training will provide practical tools for creating trauma sensitive congregations and communities while allowing participants to practice using a trauma sensitive lens on ministry examples.
Accompaniment Care Training
Sunday, June 1, at 5 p.m.
Our second training session will discuss accompaniment, a relational approach to ministry. In accompaniment, we partner with people and learn to walk through life with them. This training session will examine accompaniment as a relational framework for nurturing belonging in congregations. Rooted in compassion, presence, and a commitment to justice, the practice of accompaniment draws from biblical, theological, historical, cultural, and social work perspectives. Participants will explore its transformative power and consider how accompaniment calls faith communities to solidarity, healing, and mutual transformation in pursuing justice.
