ADULT MINISTRY

An older couple sitting in a Sunday School classroom

At Highland Hills, we value curious minds, diverse perspectives, and putting our whole hearts, minds, and souls into our faith lives.

Our Adults Ministry offers classes for Bible study on Sunday mornings, groups that meet in homes for fellowship and discussions, and opportunities for retreats, mission trips, and neighborhood clean-up days.

Our hope is to provide a place for lifelong learning and growth that allows adults to mature in faith, deepen relationships, and learn to use their God-given gifts in ministry.

Sunday Mornings

Grace, Coffee, and Conversation

9:45am
Renee Bennett

This class is a diverse adult group, including special needs adults, which generally uses the Nurturing Faith Journal’s Sunday School lessons written by Tony Cartledge as discussion topics.

Sacred Space

9:30am in the Parlor
Heidi Stollenwerck

Sacred Space practices lectio divina, a meditative discipline of asking “What resonates for me?” An intergenerational class, we raise hard questions as we listen to the different ways we each experience and express faith as we read a variety of biblical and religious texts together.

The Rodney Browne Class

9:45am in Room 12
Team Taught

Made up of "seasoned" (senior) couples and individuals who are still young at heart, this class studies the Formations literature.

Journey Class

10am in Room 13 & via Zoom
Scott Nash

This class of older couples and individuals usually follows the lessons in Formations, but occasionally focuses on a book series.

College and Career Class

10am in Youth Room
Team Taught

Any young adults from 18-30, college or early career are welcome to join this class led by a rotation of teachers. This is an active group that values meaningful conversation and wrestling with big questions. Even if you are just in town for a Sunday, stop on by! This year, the group is working through the All the Bible series, published by Smyth and Helwys.

Other Opportunities

Women of HHBC

Highland Hills seeks to offer various opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship for the women within this faith community. Many women especially enjoy our semi-annual retreat to Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons Island. This time for getting away has been a strong tool in creating a close bond among our women, while also providing the chance to relax and refresh their spirits. Occasionally, small group studies for women are held at the church or in the homes of our members. Our HHBC women are also active in our community and beyond through Global Women, where they engage in several ongoing mission projects.

Wednesday Nights

On Wednesday nights, our church family gathers in the Great Room for a time of food and fellowship at 5:45 p.m., followed by Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. This time of shared community around the tables is a weekly highlight for our church family. After supper, our Pastors lead us in thought-provoking Bible studies that encourage us to ask questions and reflect together on our faith journeys.

Empty Nesters

A group of empty nesters or “medium-aged” adults meets once a month on Tuesday evenings for fellowship, study, and exploration of theological topics. The group meets in members’ homes and enjoys diving into topics of faith, meaning, culture, and more.

Young Adult Group

Are you a young adult, someone post college but pre-baby? Our pastors invite you to join a group for young adults who meet every other Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Browns’ home for fellowship and topical discussions.
